In the systematic nomenclature proposed by Hofmann 1866, the formative of the names of hydrocarbons of composition CnH2n-4, as in propone C3H2, quartone C4H4, pentone or quintone C5H6, sextone C6H8, etc. These are seldom used.1877Watts Fownes' Chem. II. 64 The only known member of the fatty group belonging to this series is valylene or pentone C5H6.
